Christmas Eve

24 December 2004 | Faith & Society

God our father and mother

Your Christmas eyes see children;

and people who have forgotten how to be children;

and some people who never knew.

Your arms reach out and hold all of us.

Children are so close to you:

so open about what they want

trusting from birth in the possibility of joy.

So in the middle of crowds and of togetherness

Surrounded by music, laughter and food lovingly prepared

Give us an experience of the Christmas feast, with heaven and earth dancing together.

Give us trust once again in the possibility of joy.

Give us the gifts of childhood.

Just a second
