"This month’s outpouring about Princess Diana, twenty years after her death, may have inspired, repelled or puzzled, depending whether you feel included, excluded or simply bemused by this circle-fest of shared emotion. Yet all three reactions can lure us unwittingly down the common path of devaluing the achievements of a woman leader. If we turn what she did into ‘soft stuff’ (spoken of derogatively), we risk losing a leadership lesson very relevant in the year of the Grenfell fire and the Charlottesville march."
