This essay explores the challenges in understanding power safely: looking at the relationship of power with violence, exploring the ideas of 'power pornography' and the Library of Power; and glimpsing the hopeful possibility of a society in which the possibility of understanding power safely is part of every person's birthright. Of course, that means explaining why our current situation is very different: a situation in which the understanding of power is neither widespread nor safe.
